Helping children and young people build independence in everyday life
About Karin
I am a mother of two wonderful children who have inspired the Strides OT logo and taught me a great deal about child development. After completing my training as an occupational therapist at Bournemouth University, I gained twelve years of experience working as a paediatric occupational therapist. I went on to gain further qualifications in sensory integration, my area of specialism, as well as supporting neurodivergent children and young people. I work closely with families, local authorities, case managers, schools, colleges, and nurseries across Northamptonshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Peterborough, Cambridge, and the surrounding area. My approach is to offer therapy that is tailored to each child’s unique needs, focusing on building everyday living skills and making therapy a positive experience for both children and parents.
Why families and referrers trust Strides OT
As an occupational therapist, my role in the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process is to assess each child’s movement skills, sensory needs, and how well they manage daily activities. I spend time getting to know the child in familiar places, like at home and in school, so I can see what helps or gets in the way of their independence. Through careful observation and assessment, I find out where a child is skilled and where they may need extra support - whether with fine or gross motor skills, daily routines, or sensory processing. I share this clearly with parents, teachers, and other professionals, helping them understand what adjustments or tools could help the child succeed. My goal is to make daily life more manageable and enjoyable for children and families.
